1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Taxiway C is currently closed and it is planned to be fully rehabilitated to enhance airfield safety for aircraft operations at Tirana International Airport. The western part of this Taxiway was rehabilitated in 2020. The work of this phase shall include rehabilitation of the remaining part of Taxiway C and intersection to Runway 17-35 as provided in Appendix 1.
1.2 Initial work will be limited and executed by means of restrictions covered by NOTAM, but the work at the intersection will affect ground and flight operations at the aerodrome.
2. PURPOSE
2.1 The purpose of this AIRAC AIP Supplement is to notify the aircraft operators regarding the work schedule and movement area restrictions at Tirana International Airport.
2.2 Work of this phase shall be substantially complete and ready for occupancy by December 2023.
3. WORK SCHEDULE
3.1 Taxiway C will be closed continuously to aircraft operations from 18 May 2023 – 31 December 2023 to support the construction activities.
3.2 Work at the intersection to Runway 17-35 requires a runway closure and effectively shuts down the airport to aircraft operations. Work in this area shall be limited to between October and December. Activities shall be carried out at night during complete runway closures. Actual days/times of runway closures shall be notified through NOTAMs.
3.3 Other taxiways will be available for use during the operational hours.
4. TRAFFIC REGULATION AND RESTRICTIONS
4.1 No aircraft movement is allowed at closed portions of taxiway.
4.2 The routes to be used by aircraft when taxiing for departure or on arrival will be specified by Air Traffic Control Tower. The issuance by Air Traffic Control Tower of a taxi route to an aircraft does not relieve the pilot-in-command of the responsibility to maintain separation with other aircraft on the movement area or to comply with Air Traffic Control Tower directions intended to regulate aircraft on the maneuvering area.
4.3 The affected taxiway identified as being closed entirely to aircraft traffic, will be barricaded by use of low profile lighted barricades. The taxiway edge lights and the taxiway directional signs on the runway will be covered. In addition, required NOTAMs shall be issued on the various temporary changes to aircraft access through the affected areas.
4.4 During the Work, flight crews are expected to be familiar with the operating restrictions included within this AIRAC AIP Supplement and supporting NOTAMs.
5. IMPLEMENTATION
5.1 This AIRAC AIP Supplement and relevant charts will be applicable during the whole of taxiway reconstruction work schedule.
5.2 Additional information and late changes to this AIRAC AIP Supplement will be announced via NOTAM.
